Ten tips for getting more from your practice

Small habits that make a practice session count, whether you use ReasonEra, a book or a free test.

The short answer

Take clean, complete screenshots, try the question yourself first, keep a short log of the rules you missed, and re-test those rules under time pressure a day later.

Before you upload

  1. Capture the whole question. The stem, every option and any legend, key or table need to be visible. A cropped image is the most common reason for a confusing result.
  2. Use a sharp image. Zoom the page to a readable size before taking the screenshot, and avoid photographing a screen at an angle.
  3. Answer first. Even a rough guess makes the explanation more useful, because you can compare it with your own thinking.

Choosing a mode

Start with Quick Verify when you are testing yourself. Switch to Tutor Explanation when a pattern is new, or when the same kind of question has beaten you twice. If a result surprises you, re-read the question and your own steps before trusting either answer.

After the explanation

  1. Write the rule in one line. For example: "the shape rotates 90 degrees clockwise each step" or "percentage change is measured against the earlier year".
  2. Find a sibling question. Within a day, solve a similar question without help. If you can, the rule has stuck.
  3. Keep an error log. Three columns are enough: question type, the rule you missed, and whether it was a knowledge gap or a timing slip.

Practising under time pressure

Understanding a rule and applying it quickly are different skills. Use the timed practice tests to rehearse the clock, and set your own limit for each question type. Our guide to passing psychometric tests has pacing advice.

A weekly rhythm that works

DayFocusLength
Day 1One timed test, then review every miss45 min
Day 2Weak question type only, with explanations30 min
Day 3Rest or light review of the error log10 min
Day 4A second timed test of a different type45 min
Day 5Re-do the questions you missed on Day 120 min

Treat this as a starting point and adjust it to the number of days you have before your assessment.

When to stop for the day

If you notice yourself guessing rather than reasoning, stop. A tired session teaches wrong habits. Short, regular sessions beat one long evening before the deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I take a screenshot of a practice question?

Capture the full question, all answer options and any legend or table, at a readable size and in focus.

Should I use Quick Verify or Tutor Explanation first?

Try the question yourself, then use Quick Verify to check it. Use Tutor Explanation when the pattern is new or you have been stuck for several minutes.

How long should a practice session last?

Many people work well in sessions of 30 to 45 minutes. Stop when you start guessing rather than reasoning.

How do I know if my practice is working?

Keep an error log. If the same rule keeps appearing in your misses, practise that rule on its own, then re-test it a day later.
