AI Raven's Matrices Solver

Upload a Raven's-style matrix, get the answer in seconds, and see the rules that complete it.

The short answer

ReasonEra is an AI solver and tutor for Raven's-style matrix questions. You upload a screenshot of a matrix; it returns the answer and, in Tutor Explanation mode, the rules behind it. ReasonEra has guides for the Pearson TalentLens Raven's APM and adaptive tests and for Hogan APM-III. It is there to help you prepare.

How to use the raven's matrices solver

  1. Screenshot the question. Include every option, and stick to practice material you may use.
  2. Drop it into ReasonEra. It works from your browser, so there is nothing to set up.
  3. Decide on the level of detail. Answer-only if you want to figure out the logic yourself, or a full walk-through of the rules if you are stuck.

What Raven's matrices look like

Raven's Progressive Matrices are non-verbal tests of fluid reasoning. You see a matrix of patterns with a missing piece and must find the rules that govern rows and columns. Harder items combine several rules and use many distractors.

Worked example: two rules at once

Question: Across each row the shape gets bigger, and down each column the shape type changes. What belongs in the missing cell?

?Answer
Original practice example: size grows across rows, shape type changes down columns.

Answer: The largest triangle, as drawn in the answer box.

How the reasoning goes:

  1. Rule 1: across a row, the size steps up from small to medium to large.
  2. Rule 2: down a column, the type changes from circle to square to triangle.
  3. Combine them: the last row is triangles and the last column is the largest size.
  4. Choose the largest triangle and reject options that match only one of the two rules.

The example above was written for this page. It is not taken from a real test.

How accurate is the raven's matrices solver?

Category in the benchmarkGeneral models testedSpecialised models
Advanced matrix reasoning (Raven's, Matrigma, Alva Labs style)51–76%96–99%

These numbers come from ReasonEra's own benchmark of 30 November 2025. It used 500+ analogous public items from 15 providers, with blind testing, identical inputs and no proprietary items. The general models (GPT-4o, Claude Opus 4.5, Gemini 2.0 Pro, GPT-o1, Grok 2) were the versions available then and have since been updated. No independent party has verified the results. Read the benchmark.

Practice tips

  • Describe each cell in words before comparing.
  • Look for rules in rows and in columns.
  • Eliminate options that break a rule, not just the obvious one.
  • Use Tutor Explanation to see each rule named.

Limits to know about

  • Accuracy drops with blurry or cut-off images, so check the upload shows everything.
  • Items with more than one defensible answer are an inherent weak spot for any solver.
  • Matrices with many distractors and several interacting rules are the hardest case for any solver.
  • Mistakes happen. If an explanation does not make sense, question it and work the logic through yourself.

Learn first, then test yourself

Run through questions with the explanations on, then retry similar ones without help. That is the use ReasonEra is designed for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can AI solve Raven's matrices?

Specialised AI can. ReasonEra's published benchmark reported 96–99% for specialised models on advanced matrix reasoning, compared with 51–76% for the general models it tested. These are ReasonEra's own figures and have not been independently verified.

Which Raven's tests does ReasonEra support?

ReasonEra has guides and solvers for Pearson TalentLens Raven's APM, Raven's Adaptive and Hogan APM-III. See the list on this page.

How do I use the Raven's solver?

Take a screenshot of the matrix including the answer options, upload it in your browser, and choose Quick Verify or Tutor Explanation.

What do the free trials include?

Yes, there are 3 free trials with a free account. Unlimited access for 14 days costs 49 €.

Can I use it during a real test?

We designed ReasonEra for preparation. Many employers prohibit assistance in a graded assessment, so confirm the rules in your invitation.
